Staff Development for Child Protection Workers

 

Staff development is the responsibility of managers and the service to ensure practitioners receive quality training to enhance their professional development; however it is also the expectation that practitioners take responsibility for continued professional development. It is essential that all staff who work with children receive initial training and on going development in line with legislation which enables them to understand normal child development and recognise signs of abuse or neglect. The Lord Laming report 2009 stated that training and on-going development for frontline workers is essential and that “Good practice becomes standard practice in every service”

There are key elements to ensure on-going staff development:

  • Training     
  • Regular Supervision to ensure the quality of service is maintained and good practice must become elementary requirements in each service
  • Personal Development Plans
  • Yearly Appraisals/ Review of development plan
  • Staff  Meetings

Child Protection Services can offer training in line with National Minimum Standards, Every Child Matters, meeting Ofsted guidance/ requirements government legislation and EYFES. We believe that training should enhance development skills, best practice and meet legal obligations, reflect policies and business needs of the service area, providing better outcomes for children and young people, making safer environments for children and young people to reside and practitioners to work.

We deliver and design bespoke training to any organisation who work with children and young people, which meet government legislation and guidance in child protection / safeguarding children and young people. Who is Responsible for Child Care Protection?

The child protection standards are applicable to all public bodies, organisations, professionals and persons who provide statutory services to children. They also establish a framework of best practice in child protection for voluntary, community and independent sector organisations and practitioners (including counsellors and therapists working in a private capacity) who work with or have significant contact with children and young people. They should also help families and members of the public understand how services work to protect children and the important contribution they themselves can make to the safeguarding of children and young people.
